The Property is located in a densely structured urban setting, characterized by residential buildings erected in the 50s/70s: rows houses and apartment blocks of 8-10 floors. On the facing block, on Via Einstein, there is an interesting school building in the rationalist style, which is being restored. The Client requested a building with very low operating costs. The design solution is thus oriented along two main lines: mini apartments equipped with bathrooms and kitchens, to reduce the amount of personnel needed to operate the residence, and an energy-saving design. The university residence is divided into three structures, with a one-story base that links them and contains the shared functions. The three structures have square bases of twenty-one meters per side and differ from one another in terms of type, height and surface finishes. The Alto is a ten story residential tower with the technical systems on the roof. The Basso is a four story residence with walkways, built over the entrance lobby. The exterior surfacing is in wood. The Medio is a five story apartment block with technical systems on the roof, whose ground floor includes services. The base is a rectangular block interrupted in the middle by a courtyard. Three types of buildings that have characterized the history of urban Milan: houses with exterior walkways, high-rise towers and low-rise apartment blocks. These differences make the entire complex a welcoming place, a place that favors socialization, as is intended.
